Premier League clubs are always giants waiting to be toppled in the FA Cup third round. And Newcastle United are no different. The Toon made the trip to League One Rochdale hoping to bounce back from a disappointing run of league form that has seen three consecutive defeats. However, those tuning in for the hope of an FA Cup upset were treated to something very different during the opening 15 minutes of BT Sport's live coverage.Due to the facilities at Spotland Stadium, commentators Peter Drury and Robbie Savage was forced to sit in close proximity to the Newcastle supporters. It was a seating arrangement that ended particularly badly for Savage who, forever viewed as something of a pantomime villain, was subject to some X-rated chants.

Chants directed at Savage

And given the acoustics of the stadium, the chants reverberated louder than usual and became audible on the broadcast.

As a result, Drury was forced to say: “If you’re hearing bad language from the supporters we apologise, we are right in amongst them as you can gather.”

But what were the chants in question? Well, they might not have been original, but they certainly got the point across.

BT Sport forced to apologise

The declaration of: “Robbie Savage… you’re a w***er” could be clearly heard and it's also claimed that: "'You're shit scared of Shearer" was adopted shortly afterwards.

Savage didn't acknowledge the chants himself, but considering there was uncanny silence from him during the abuse, you can be certain that he got the message.

However, Newcastle fans don't have too much more to cheer about as they found themselves locked in a real battle at 1-1 and will be forced to contest an unwanted replay.
