Port Vale striker Tom Pope is the social media gift that just keeps on giving. In the build up to Manchester City's FA Cup tie against the League Two side, a tweet from the 34-year-old about John Stones in the summer started doing the rounds. The post saw Pope be heavily critical of the England international, claiming that he was 'weak as piss'.Predictably, with Stones in the team, Pope found the back of the net at the Etihad to make the score 1-1 on the night. His tweet was reposted all over social media, but City ended up having the last laugh as they cruised to a 4-1 win to progress to the fourth round.

But that hasn't stopped Pope delivering yet more social media gold in the aftermath.

The Vale striker took to Twitter again, writing: "Sorry I can’t reply to everyone it’s gone mental! I’d just like to say I was completely wrong and bang out of order to say I’d score 40 a season..... it’s more like 50 😊😊😊 enjoy your weekend 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻."

It's official, we're only four days into 2020 and we may have already found the tweet of the year.

Well played, Tom.

The 34-year-old striker's goal at the Etihad was as good a header as you will see on the first FA Cup weekend of 2020.

Pope latched on to a decent cross into the box and with the ball slightly behind him, the big striker managed to guide the ball past Claudio Bravo in the City goal.

POPE'S GOAL

A brilliant goal and a memorable night both on and off the pitch for the Vale man!
