Oleksandr Zinchenko was chuffed after scoring for Manchester City in their 4-1 win against Port Vale in the FA Cup on Saturday.

The Ukrainian left-back rarely finds himself on the scoresheet but he scored the opener for City as they breezed through to the fourth round.

Zinchenko’s effort from distance ricocheted off Vale captain Leon Legge and into the back of the net.

Tom Pope equalised for the League Two side but goals from Sergio Aguero, Taylor Harwood-Bellis and Phil Foden secured City’s spot in the next round.

Scoring in the FA Cup must be a great feeling but Zinchenko was the subject of ridicule following his celebration.

The 23-year-old wheeled away towards the City fans and posed with his hands tucked underneath his armpits, copying the celebration made famous by France striker Kylian Mbappe at the 2018 World Cup.

Zinchenko produced the pose after the match as well.

Others players have copied Mbappe, but they’ve usually picked good moments to do it.

Mbappe’s Paris Saint-Germain teammate Neymar did it in the Champions League. Liverpool right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold did it after scoring against Leicester City, the Reds’ title rivals.

So for Zinchenko to do it after netting against Port Vale, 10th in League Two, is pretty laughable.

And fans quickly set about mocking the Ukraine international on social media.

Maybe just a casual smile and a few high-fives next time, Oleksandr.

City’s defence of their FA Cup trophy got off to a great start and the cup competition will be among their priorities this season.

With the Premier League title seemingly out of reach, Pep Guardiola will be eyeing success in the FA Cup, Champions League and League Cup.

The Champions League is the one that he and the fans want the most, but another successful trip to Wembley Stadium wouldn’t be scoffed at.
