It's been a rollercoaster week for Michael van Gerwen. The Dutchman was attempting to win his fourth PDC World Championship on New Year's Day.Van Gerwen had not been firing on all cylinders during the tournament but he was still favourite to beat Peter Wright and lift the Sid Waddell trophy. However, despite averaging just under 103, it wasn't enough as he fell to a shock 7-3 defeat. The 30-year-old was understandably disappointed with the result but it didn't take him long to get back to business once again.

Van Gerwen was participating in the the Celebrity Darts World Cup in Bonn against the likes of Phil Taylor, Fallon Sherrock and Gerwyn Price.

'Mighty Mike' was paired with handball legend Pascal Hens and were 1-0 down to Max Hopp and Frank Buschmann.

Van Gerwen had a great opportunity to level the match when he stood up to the oche needing 69.

And he appeared to level the game when he took out D11, prompting Van Gerwen to celebrate and bellow 'boom'.

However, to his embarrassment, he thought he needed 79 and instead of actually levelling the match, he busted his score.

The look of horror when Van Gerwen was told he'd miscounted was priceless.

Watch it below:

Quality. Van Gerwen took it well though as he laughed his error off.

Even the best make mistakes, clearly.

At least it happened in an exhibition match rather than in a competitive game.

Van Gerwen confirmed that he thought he needed 79 on Twitter after the match.

Darts commentator and pundit Wayne Mardle then took the opportunity to poke fun at Van Gerwen's maths.

Van Gerwen will have just over three weeks off before returning to competitive action at the Masters at the end of the month.

He will then begin his campaign to win his sixth Premier League title, which kicks off at the start of February.
