Everton fans have been pictured turning their backs while Liverpool supporters sang 'You'll never walk alone' ahead of kick-off in the FA Cup.

The Toffies visited Anfield in what was expected to be the most exciting tie of the third round and travelling supporters caused plenty of controversy before a ball was even kicked.

Gary Lineker, who was covering the game live for the BBC, tweeted: 'Turning the other cheek. Everton fans’ reaction to YNWA.'

Check it out below:

As you can see, the whole of the away end turned their backs while Liverpool's iconic music was playing.

Their antics certainly split opinion on social media.

'Probably tired of being reminded that they’re the city’s second-best team," one wrote, while another tweeted: 'It's the best way to watch Everton'.

However, some football supporters saw the funny side.

'You love to see it,' one said, while another commented: 'Good on them. Nothing wrong with a healthy hatred of rival clubs.'

While there was a lot going on in the stands, sadly, there wasn't too much action on the pitch.

Liverpool vs Everton was expected to be the tie of the round, but it was rather dull after 70 minutes.

Thankfully, Reds youngster Curtis Jones curled a beauty past Jordan Pickford from outside the box with just under 20 minutes to go.

Despite Jurgen Klopp making nine changes and fielding a very young side, the hosts were able to hold on for a brilliant victory.

Those Everton fans that turned their backs at kickoff probably wish they stayed that way. Their club have now failed to win a Merseyside derby for over a decade.

To make matters worse, the Toffies are now out of the FA Cup too.
