Liverpool fans were given their first glimpse of Takumi Minamino during the win over Everton on Sunday afternoon.

Kopites had been patiently waiting to see their January import make his debut and Jurgen Klopp obliged during an FA Cup third-round tie that saw Liverpool make a slew of alterations.

And while Minamino will face far tougher opposition than Everton during his time at Anfield, making his bow during a Merseyside Derby is about as special as it gets.

So, how did he perform? There might not have been a last minute winner a la Virgil van Dijk, but the general consensus was most certainly a positive one.

Minamino showed the sort of energy you'd expect from a Klopp signing, buzzing around the Everton back-line, and attracted plaudits from Liverpool fans on Twitter.

Positive start for Minamino

One wrote: "The fact that Minamino is doing all the same shouting, pointing and demanding of the bell to feet he did at Salzburg on his Liverpool debut speaks volumes about his character.

"Simply reaffirms my belief that he’s a top class player.

Another penned: "Minamino has that “waterbug” aesthetic I absolutely love. Perpetual, unpredictable motion and that brilliant lateral dynamism. Going to be such fun to watch."

Liverpool Echo writer Paul Gorst tweeted during the first-half: "Can see why Jurgen Klopp was so keen to sign Takumi Minamino. He hasn't stopped hassling Everton's defence all half."

But don't just believe the tweets, take a look for yourself, because YouTuber 'MASports2' has already compiled Minamino's full highlights from his debut. Check out the full video below:

So far, so good, but let's not get too carried away.

Klopp is brilliant at easing new signings into the team and Minamino is undoubtedly a long-term project given the immovability of Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino.

Therefore, regardless of what you think about his skills at the moment, the most important thing should be how well he suits the Klopp philosophy.

The fact his work rate was so impressive and he was confident enough to order around his teammates shows he's already halfway there to succeeding on Merseyside.

If he continues to show that attitude and moulds his skills at Melwood, then you can expect to see Minamino causing havoc week in, week out in the Premier League.
