Curtis Jones will never forget Sunday, January 5, 2020, for the rest of his life. The 18-year-old had only featured five times in the Liverpool first-team before he was named in the starting line-up for their FA Cup third-round clash against Everton. The local lad would have just been excited to play in such an important fixture at Anfield.Never in his wildest dreams would he have envisaged scoring an unbelievable winner and picking up the Man of the Match award in the process. But that’s exactly what happened as a youthful Liverpool side beat Everton’s full-strength XI.

Incredible.

Many football fans would have been surprised by the performance of Jones. And after the match, they were also rather surprised by his voice.

You’d expect the Liverpool-born to have a strong scouse accent - and he kind of does. But it also has a foreign hint. It really is rather bizarre.

Check out his post-match interview after his Everton heroics - and the reaction of fans on social media:

Of course, the youngster was probably rather nervous. He’s not used to conducting post-match interviews in front of millions of viewers on the BT Sport.

That was the case after he played in Liverpool’s Carabao Cup victory against MK Dons earlier this season.

Jones couldn’t shake a stutter on that occasion and he later came out to explain that it was down to nerves.

“Not a stutter, just nervous being put straight on the spot!” he explained back in September.

If he continues to produce performances like he did on Sunday, he’ll soon be very familiar with TV interviews immediately after matches.

Anyway, who cares about his voice when he’s scoring the winner in a Merseyside derby?
