There has been a particular criticism surrounding the Formula One scene that the sport has become predictable and uninteresting.

The dominance of Mercedes for the last six years has been unmatched; the superiority of their driver Lewis Hamilton, unstoppable.

The Brit has won five of the last six Drivers’ Championships and continues to grow further and further away at the top as he looks to equal the record of the legendary Michael Schumacher.

Many would have predicted exactly how the 2019 F1 season actually finished; with Hamilton on top and Mercedes claiming the Constructors’ Championship by some margin.

So, can we expect the same dull predictability in the upcoming 2020 season? Not according to the senior writer at formula1.com Lawrence Barretto.

The journalist has made some quite outrageous predictions and feels that the turn of the new decade may breathe some fresh air and sprinkle some unpredictability and excitement back onto the circuit.

His first prediction – which might just be his boldest – is that the Mercedes reign will end. Whilst alluding to how ridiculous his own prediction may seem, the writer believes that constructors will be bettered by Ferrari who, he claims, have learned from their own mistakes in previous years and will finally get it right this year.

Ferrari have stated that they are investing heavily into this year’s car, but haven’t won the prize since 2008, so it will take some doing.

The next outlandish prediction was that, for the first time since 2016, the Drivers’ Championship will not be as comprehensive as last years and will instead be decided on the final day.

The site published that Hamilton won’t be half as comfortable as he was last year and will face stiff competition for top spot from the likes of Charles Leclerc and Max Verstappen.

If this proves to be the case, the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix is going to be a real cracker.

Last season saw two new podium finishers in the form of Carlos Sainz and Pierre Gasly. They became the 210th and 211th members to record a podium finish respectively.

F1.com believe that the new century will bring number 212 and 213. Between Alexander Albon, Lando Norris and Esteban Ocon, Barretto believes that two will get a top three finish this season.

After an utterly dreadful 2019 campaign, Haas need a turnaround, and F1.com have backed them to do it.

Barretto writes that the American brand will rise higher than any of the mid-table finishers, coming closer to the elite three of Mercedes, Ferrari and Red Bull than any other.

It is thought that they will edge the likes of Renault and McLaren.

Finally, the last prediction is that Daniel Ricciardo will have an incredible 2019 and earn a move to Ferrari who – in hypothetical land – have just become the new powerhouses of F1.

The site believes that the Australian will put pen to paper in 2020 and take over the reigns from former Red Bull teammate Sebastian Vettel.
