Arsenal breathed a huge sigh of relief after scraping past Leeds in their FA Cup third-round clash on Monday night. The Championship side deserved more as they dominated proceedings - especially in the first half. However, a second half Reiss Nelson strike sealed a narrow 1-0 win for the Gunners.Leeds fans have every right to feel aggrieved, though.Anthony Taylor’s refusal to show Granit Xhaka a yellow card for his persistent fouling was nothing short of baffling.

But his - and VAR’s - decision not to send off Alexandre Lacazette for a blatant kick out at Leeds’ Gaetano Berardi needs explaining.

In fact, Lacazette got away scot-free.

The incident occurred in the second half and was completely missed by referee Taylor despite him standing right next to it.

Not to worry, though, because VAR would surely intervene.

However, after spending plenty of time looking at Lacazette’s kick, they decided it wasn’t worthy of a red card.

It really was a strange decision and one that angered football fans in general.

Lacazette actually captained the side last night - not the actions you want from your skipper.

After the match, the Frenchman revealed that manager Mikel Arteta really wasn’t impressed with his side’s first half performance.

"The manager shouted a lot,” Lacazette revealed.

"He was not happy because we knew they'd play like this and we didn't respect what he had said."

But Arsenal edged through and will now play away to Bournemouth in the fourth round.
