Everton defender Danielle Turner took to Twitter over the weekend to call out Gary Lineker for omitting women's football statistics from his punditry.

In reference to the FA Cup tie between Everton and Liverpool's men's clubs, Linekar said: "If you're a teenage Liverpool fan you have never seen your team lose at home to Everton. It's a run that stretches to 22 games."

Turner highlighted that this is in fact incorrect. Liverpool has lost a Merseyside derby recently: in the Women's Super League when Everton beat Liverpool at Anfield in November. The Blues won 1-0 in front of 23,500.

The defender tweeted: "Hey @GaryLineker, please can you get your facts right? 17th November 2019 - check the women’s results."

The pundit was quick to respond with two laughing face emojis and a thumbs up.

The November women's Merseyside derby was the first to be played at Anfield.

Liverpool men might be champions of the world after their Club World Cup victory, but for the women's team, it is a different story.

While the Toffees are fifth in the WSL with 15 points, Liverpool is currently at the bottom. They haven't won a league match so far this season and with just three points they are facing relegation.

Things are close at the bottom of the league, however. There are just three points separating Liverpool from the club above, Bristol City, who have six points after winning their match at the weekend against Manchester United 1-0.

In the men's clash at the weekend, Liverpool beat Everton 1-0 to continue their winning streak against their local rivals.
