Max Verstappen has extended his contract with Red Bull, keeping him with the team until the end of the 2023 season.

The 22-year-old has been with the Red Bull squad since being promoted from Toro Rosso mid-way through the 2016 season.

Talking about the new deal, Verstappen said: "Red Bull believed in me and gave me the opportunity to start in Formula 1 which I have always been very grateful for.

"I want to win with Red Bull and our goal is of course to fight for a World Championship together."

There were rumours that there was interest in Verstappen from Mercedes or Ferrari, but this new deal secures the Dutchman at Red Bull for a little longer yet.

Verstappen became the youngest winner in Formula 1 history when he won the Spanish Grand Prix back in 2016 at just 18-years-old.

Finishing third in the championship last season, behind Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas, Red Bull seem keen to keep the young man under their wing for the immediate future.

"With the challenge of the 2021 regulation changes on the horizon, continuity in as many areas as possible is key", said Red Bull team principal Christian Horner, as per BBC.

"Max has proven what an asset he is to the team, he truly believes in the partnership we have forged with our engine supplier Honda, and we are delighted to have extended our relationship with him."
