Golfer Lauren Hartlage is just 21 and still studying at the University of Louiseville, but her young age isn't stopping her from performing under pressure.

The American is ranked at No.48 in the World Amateur Golf Rankings, and at the Women's Orlando International Amateur last weekend, she obtained a four-shot lead to win the first tournament of the 2020 season.

For her first round, she went bogey-free scoring a 5-under 67 on the Orange County National's Panther Lakes Course, Florida. Over the whole tournament, Hartlage scored 11 birdies including for all three of her visits to the par-5 final hole.

This was Hartlage's first win since February 2019 when she won the Louisville-hosted Moon Golf Invitational.

Hartlage's 6-under final score was four shots ahead of the runner up, Japanese junior golfer Sora Kamiya. This was Hartlage's third Orlando International Amateur, she placed fourth in 2019 with a score of 1-over par.

Golf Week reports she said: “I left myself in a good position where I could easily get up and down,” she said.

Hartlage said: “Definitely being able to play in some of those top events and being able to compete with some of the best players in the world has helped a lot.”

“I have a few things that I might not believe in myself as much, but I know that I’m just as good as the rest of them.”

Hartlage has a growing breadth of experience, she qualified for the first round of match play at the British Women's Amateur in 2019 and was the runner-up at the Ladies National Golf Association amateur. She says this has all helped: “I think I knew I had the talent but didn’t believe in myself.”
