With the Premier League already out of sight, Manchester United would have wanted to win the Carabao Cup to at least win some silverware this campaign. But they went into their Carabao Cup semi-final first leg tie against Manchester City at Old Trafford far from full strength.Paul Pogba has been struggling with injury for months and he had an operation on Tuesday, ruling him out of the game.Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was also without Harry Maguire and Anthony Martial, although the latter was fit enough to take his place on the bench. So they were well and truly underdogs for their game against their fierce rivals on Tuesday.

And they fell behind after just 15 minutes to what was a quite brilliant goal from Bernardo Silva.

The Portuguese winger picked up the ball from 30 yards out, before making his way towards goal and unleashing an unstoppable effort that went in off the bar.

Watch it below:

What a strike. David de Gea tried his best but he could get absolutely no where near Silva's effort.

Silva had many, including Gary Lineker, gushing about him over social media.

The BBC presented wrote after the opener: "Stonker of a goal from Bernardo Silva. Delightful footballer."

And Silva would prove Lineker right once again as he played a major role in City's second 15 minutes later.

He picked up the ball in United's third and produced a defence-splitting ball to Riyad Mahrez.

The Algerian forward then did Silva's ball justice as he rounded the goalkeeper before finishing into an empty net.

And it was 3-0 after 37 minutes when Andreas Pereira scored an own-goal.

It really was men vs boys in the first half at Old Trafford.
