Former undisputed cruiserweight champion Oleksandr Usyk has named his current top five pound-for-pound boxers in the world. The Ukrainian made the successful jump to heavyweight in October last year defeating Chazz Witherspoon with ease after his opponent retired after round seven. The 32-year-old is now targeting belts at his new weight class and shouldn’t have to wait long for a title shot as he currently sits at top spot in the WBO heavyweight challenger rankings.Usyk’s top five pound-for-pound fighters of present are as follows, per Michael Benson of talkSPORT:1. Vasyl Lomachenko
2. Canelo Alvarez
3. Terence Crawford
4. Errol Spence
5. Deontay Wilder

Unsurprisingly, Usyk’s compatriot Vasyl Lomachenko reigns supreme and takes home the gold. The WBO, WBA and WBC champion has looked like a man amongst boys in the lightweight division and has already lined up an undisputed title fight against Teofimo Lopez, Brooklyn’s newly crowned IBF champion.

Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez had a banner year in 2019 and thoroughly deserves second spot on Usyk’s list. In May, Alvarez took on Daniel Jacobs, out-pointing ‘The Golden Child’ to unify three pieces of the middleweight title. In November, ‘Canelo’ leaped up to 175 pounds to face Sergey Kovalev. After a cat-and-mouse fight for 11 rounds, Alvarez finished ‘Krusher’ with a highlight reel knockout.

Terence Crawford and Errol Spence are ranked next, both fighters are undefeated and are considered amongst the best ever within the welterweight division.

Crawford has held multiple world championships in three weight classes, including the WBO welterweight title since 2018. ‘Bud’ continues to go from strength to strength and is desperate to unify the division with a blockbuster clash against Spence.

‘The Truth’ remained perfect in 2019, retaining his IBF welterweight title in a dominant points victory over Mikey Garcia. He then went on to win the WBC strap, defeating Shawn Porter via split decision in arguably the fight of the year.

Deontay Wilder rounds off Usyk’s top five, which will certainly raise some eyebrows despite his knockout reputation.

After devastating knockout wins over Dominic Breazeale and Luis Ortiz last year, the Bronze Bomber will meet Tyson Fury at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas on February 22 in a HUGE rematch following the draw in December 2018.

This year is absolutely massive for the Ukrainian and the heavyweight division as a whole, with key fights scheduled around every corner.

Do you agree with Usyk’s top five? If not, who would be your top-five pound-for-pound stars of today?
