Nick Cushing will leave his current role as Manchester City Women's manager at the start of February to take up the post of assistant manager at New York City FC.

The 35-year-old has won six trophies in as many years with City Women's side since its reformation in 2014. His silverware record boasts - three Continental Cup successes, two FA Cup triumphs and one FA Women’s Super League title.

Cushing will leave the Blues fighting for three different competitions for the remainder of the 2019/20 season. He guided the club to the Women’s Champions League semi-finals in two consecutive seasons, 2016-17 and 2017-18.

He began his coaching career with Manchester City in 2007, where he was a schools coach. Nick then joined the club's academy coaching set-up, and will now lead him to continue his professional path across the pond with New York City - who are 80 percent owned by the City Group, founded by Sheikh Mansour and Khaldoon Al Mubarak.

As assistant manager of New York, his new role will see him will link up with the newly-appointed head coach of the MLS outfit Ronny Deila.

The Bronx was Eastern Conference winners last season and finished second in the overall table. This means they qualified for the 2020 CONCACAF Champions League.

Cushing's final game in charge of the Cityzens will be their Barclays FA Women’s Super League home clash with Arsenal on Sunday 2 February.

The 35-year-old has said the following on the move:

"I would like to thank City Football Group and Manchester City for giving me the opportunity to manage our women’s team for the past six years.

“Making the decision to leave MCWFC has been incredibly difficult given the fantastic players and staff that we have here and the incredible success that we have achieved together - it isn’t one that I have taken lightly.

“We’ve had an amazing six-and-a-half season and I have thoroughly enjoyed working with everybody – I will be extremely emotional to leave, but I’m very excited for my next role within the City Football Group.

“Linking up with New York City and Ronny (Deila) is a brilliant opportunity and I’m really looking forward to working in the MLS.”
