Women's Sport: Megan Walsh and Maya Le Tissier sign new Brighton deals

Women's Super League side Brighton & Hove Albion have awarded new contracts to goalkeeper Megan Walsh and 17-year-old defender Maya Le Tissier.

Former Everton stopper Walsh, 25, joined the Seagulls from Yeovil Town in July 2019 following their relegation to the FA National League South. She has extended her current deal at the Broadfield Stadium until 2021. 

Megan has a combined eight England youth international caps from under-17 to under-23 level and has also represented Great Britain at the 2017 Summer Universiade - the university games for football.

Walsh has made more saves in the WSL - 95, than any other keeper in 2019.

Le Tissier, born in Guernsey, began her career at ST Martins A.C, before signing for Albion in 2018. She has captained England's under-17 side and is no relation to Southampton legend Matt Le Tissier - who was also born on the island in the English Channel. 

Maya made her debut for the Seagulls on December 5, 2018, against Crystal Palace in the League Cup, and then made her first league appearance four days later against Chelsea.  

The teenager has put pen to paper on her first professional contract which will run until June 2022.

Brighton manager Hope Powell told the club website: "We are thrilled that both Maya and Megan have signed new deals with the club.

"Megan has been superb for us since arriving from Yeovil in the summer. We have also been delighted with Maya's progress this season, and she thoroughly deserves what we hope will be the first of many professional contracts in her career."

Albion currently sits ninth in the WSL table, with nine points from 11 games.
