The value of players across the globe is always a hot topic in modern football.

Money talks these days and young stars with copious amounts of talent normally see their price tag skyrocket in a relatively short amount of time.

The last 12 and a bit months have been no different. Since January 1. 2019, the market values of many players have been on the rise, with three seeing an increase of over €50m.

Thanks to Transfermarkt, we've been able to provide the top 20 players whose value has increased the most since the start of last year.

Here we go!

20. Declan Rice (West Ham)

Value: €49.5m
Value increase: +€31.5m

The Hammers' midfield enforcer has gone from a relative unknown to a regular in England's squads in just over 12 months. But after his form in 2019/20, would anyone pay close to £50m for the 20-year-old?

19. Donny van de Beek (Ajax)

Value: €49.5m
Value increase: +€31.5m

Van de Beek being valued the same as Rice seems strange. The Dutchman is a proven baller in the Champions League and is one of the top players in the Eredivisie. If you had €49.5m spare, you'd certainly opt for the 22-year-old over Rice.

18. Andrew Robertson (Liverpool)

Value: €72m
Value increase: +€31.5m

The best left-back in world football has enjoyed yet another stellar 12 months. He's deservedly one of the most valuable defenders around and his value is only going to continue to skyrocket under Jurgen Klopp's rule.

17. Bernardo Silva (Man City)

Value: €90m
Value increase: +€31.5m

Silva and trophies went hand-in-hand in 2019 and his value of €90m is perhaps a tad insulting to one of the world's elite playmakers. Pep Guardiola probably wouldn't sell hm for triple that!

16. Youri Tielemans (Leicester)

Value: €49.5m
Value increase: +€33.3m

Joining the Foxes has without question been the smartest choice of Tielemans' career so far. Already one of the best midfielders in the Premier League, Leicester's decision to sign him permanently for around £40m already looks a wise decision.

15. Ansu Fati (Barcelona)

Value: €36m
Value increase: +€36m

Back on January 1, Fati was literally worth nothing. He was a raw 16-year-old making his way in Barca's academy, but now he's a first-team regular. The guy is 100% going to be valued at €100m+ in the next two to three years.

14. Erling Haaland (Borussia Dortmund)

Value: €40.5m
Value increase: +€36m

Goals equal money in football. So when you bang in 28 in just half a season for RB Salzburg, your value is going to reflect that. The fact Dortmund signed him for just €22.5m is testament to their ability to snap up a bargain.

13. Rodrygo Goes (Real Madrid)

Value: €45m
Value increase: +€36m

What a player the Brazilian winger looks. Already with a Champions League hat-trick to his name, the sky really is the limit for Rodrygo. There's probably no point focusing on his value, Los Blancos are not going to be selling anytime soon.

12. Nicolo Zaniolo (AS Roma)

Value: €45m
Value increase: +€36m

Seen by many as the future of Italian football and you can almost guarantee that the 20-year-old attacking midfielder will end up signing for Juventus at some point. Knowing the Bianconeri, they'll probably ignore his value and snap him up on a free somehow.

11. Tammy Abraham (Chelsea)

Value: €45m
Value increase: +€36m

What a wild 12 months for Abraham. From scoring shed loads of goals in the Championship to notching them on a regular basis for Chelsea in the Premier League. If anything, Abraham is probably undervalued in the grand scheme of things.

10. Serge Gnabry (Bayern Munich)

Value: €72m
Value increase: +€36m

Arsenal sold him for £5m, FIVE MILLION POUND STERLING! One of Bayern's smartest signings in modern times, one so good that the departure of Arjen Robben hasn't been felt to the extreme that was expected.

9. Raheem Sterling (Man City)

Value: €144m
Value increase: +€36m

A few years back, you'd gasp at how much Sterling was being valued at. But after watching him play for City and remembering that Ousmane Dembele cost a similar amount, those gasps have now become approving head nods.

8. Mason Mount (Chelsea)

Value: €40.5m
Value increase: +€36.9m

Now one of the Blues' key men under Frank Lampard and given the ridiculous English premium in the transfer market, Chelsea could probably flog him for double his 'value' if they wanted. They won't, of course.

7. Fede Valverde (Real Madrid)

Value: €45m
Value increase: +€39.6m

Who needs Paul Pogba, eh? Out of nowhere, the Uruguayan has gone from a benchwarmer to the key man in Zinedine Zidane's midfield. He can do it all and you better believe that the manager values him at far more than just €45m.

6. Martin Odegaard (Real Sociedad)

Value: €45m
Value increase: +€41.4m

Finally, the Norwegian is turning heads in La Liga. For years, it looked as if Real Madrid had made a mistake by signing the then 16-year-old, but their investment now looks a shrewd one. Los Blancos have a generational talent on their hands once again.

5. Jadon Sancho (Borussia Dortmund)

Value: €108m
Value increase: +€45m

Probably the one player on the list who is likely to depart for his estimated value in due course. Sancho will surely be a member of the 100 million club and you know what? He's probably bloody worth it.

4. Lautaro Martinez (Inter Milan)

Value: €72m
Value increase: +€49.5m

The most improved striker in Europe and one who will command an outrageously high fee from one of the big boys in the future. The 22-year-old Argentine is more than just a goal scorer - just ask Romelu Lukaku!

3. Trent Alexander-Arnold (Liverpool)

Value: €99m
Value increase: +€58.5m

A defender valued at nearly €100m, what an achievement by Alexander-Arnold! Any club in the world would match that price tag if they could sign him, but it'd probably take five times that to make Liverpool consider it - and even then they might not.

2. Sadio Mane (Liverpool)

Value: €135m
Value increase: +€67.5m

Just like Alexander-Arnold, Liverpool wouldn't even consider selling their star attacker for triple that value. But an increase of €67.5m is mighty impressive for a player that seems to improve every week. He'll be valued at €200m minimum come the end of the season.

1. Joao Felix (Atletico Madrid)

Value: €90m
Value increase: +€79.2m

It's been tough going for Felix at Atletico, but don't let that distract you from what was a stunning 12 months for the Portuguese. Last January, he was a relative unknown at Benfica and now he's a global superstar and the second most expensive teenage footballer in history.

Atletico will be hoping his value continues to increase to match their €126m investment, though!

Not a bad top 20, eh?

Honourable mentions have to go to Chelsea's Callum Hudson-Odoi and Rennes' teenage star Eduardo Camavinga, who've both gone from a value of €0 to €31.5m.

Manchester United's Daniel James has also added €25.11m to his initial value of just €90k back on January 1, 2019.

Further proof that so much can change in this sport over a 12 month period!
