John Cena hasn't been seen in WWE for many months and he hasn't wrestled for the company in almost a year, but he would still love to earn a spot at WrestleMania 36.

WWE fans haven't seen much of Cena in the past year, as he's been focusing on his acting career. His last appearance was back in July when he had a rap battle with The Usos on the Raw Reunion show.

He last wrestled for the company way back in January 2019 in a Fatal 4-Way match vs Finn Balor, Baron Corbin, and Drew McIntyre.

The Leader of the Cenation took such a step back from WWE in 2019 that it became the first year in the past 17 years that he hadn't worked a match on a pay-per-view.

However, projects over the past year and into 2020 such as Disney’s Dolittle, Project X-Traction, Fast & Furious 9, and Suicide Squad 2 have taken up his time, meaning he can't be as committed to WWE as he used to be.

Still, Cena would still love to earn a spot at WrestleMania 36 in April later this year.

He said on Jimmy Kimmel Live: “I always like for them to give me ideas and then me kind of make it my own. I know we have have a small, large event called WrestleMania around the corner.

"It just so happens to be in Tampa. That’s kinda where I live, so I’ll be in the neighborhood. Suicide Squad should be done. But it’s not like I call someone up and be like, ‘I wanna be in WrestleMania.’ Those spots are very coveted.

"There are performers that work all year, 250 shows a year, to earn those spots. I would love to earn one of those spots.”

While Cena would love to earn a spot at WrestleMania 36, he also defined what his current role in WWE is.

He said: “This is the first time in 15 years, or maybe more, that I haven’t been on a WWE pay-per-view in a calendar year. So this is the first big transition. I’ve officially moved elsewhere.

"I’m not a regular player. WWE is still my heart. I’m still apart of the family. I still keep in touch with a lot of folks. I try my best to teach and mentor when I can. But man, I’m 42.

"I’ve been proud of the effort I’ve put forth, and I just want to make sure I never get put in a position where paying customers look at the effort and say, ‘Eh, he’s sticking around cause he’s greedy.’”

It would be great to see Cena at WrestleMania 36 later this year, but due to his acting schedule, it sounds like he will probably just make an appearance at the Showcase of Immortals, rather than having a match.
