Even though Loris Karius is unlikely to ever play for the Liverpool first team again, their fans can't help but keep one haunted eye on his time at Besiktas. Kopites will have been unsurprised to see the German make a series of clangers in his first season out on loan. However, this term has seen a marked improvement. On the whole, anyway. The 26-year-old could even be returning to Anfield soon, as the Turkish outfit are struggling to afford to keep him on a permanent basis. Should Jurgen Klopp have spent Friday afternoon tuning in to see how his old saboteur was getting on, he might well have paused to frown for the first time all season.

Besiktas drew 2-2 in a friendly with Altınordu.

In the grand scheme of things, it meant little but it won't have done Karius' notoriously fragile confidence much good.

Jeremain Lens had given Besiktas an early lead when on 12 minutes, the on-loan Liverpool stopper completely fluffed his lines from a routine cross and the ball ended up in the back of the net.

His own goal can be seen below:

A few minutes later, he also came up with this gem:

If any Liverpool fans are suffering from flashbacks to Kiev 2018, our sincerest apologies.

Karius' career stands at a curious juncture as we enter the January transfer window.

There is no longer a place for him on Merseyside with Alisson and even back-up goalkeeper Adrian both shining at every opportunity.

If he doesn't stay with Besiktas, it's unclear where his next move will take him.
