If we were to ask you your opinion on the best three games of the previous decade you would probably have the iconic GTA 5 in that list somewhere.
The most recent instalment in the mega-hit franchise took the world by storm in 2013 and never stopped selling, as its popularity grew in leaps and bounds as the decade wore on.
While the single-player storyline was brilliant fun, the game really took off when the multi-player online platform was introduced - with regular, creative updates keeping it, well, on top of the game.
Now, as we bid farewell to a chapter that saw gaming advance in quantum leaps, it has been revealed that GTA V ended the '10s as the best selling game of the decade in the United Kingdom.
It beat out a trio of Call of Duty instalments, Minecraft and a raft of FIFA's to clinch the title of the undisputed game of the decade.
You can see the full list below:
- 1. GTA V
- 2. Call of Duty: Black Ops
- 3. Minecraft
- 4. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3
- 5. FIFA 14
- 6. FIFA 13
- 7. FIFA 15
- 8. Call of Duty: Black Ops 2
- 9. FIFA 11
- 10. FIFA 12
So there you have it - as you can see, FIFA has dominated large parts of the decade but simply couldn't keep up with the open world, mad-cap, trigger happy freedom that gamers can find in GTA.
Rockstar continues to tease the gaming world with a potential GTA VI release but right now that looks like it could still be quite a while before we can get our hands on that.
It will have to be something special to step out of the massive shadow cast by its predecessor, but it also has every chance of being crowned the king of games for the upcoming decade.
Here's to many more hours of unadulterated madness as we venture into the '20s.
