Reports are circulating in the Italian press that Napoli striker Ezequiel Lavezzi is on his way to England in the summer.

Liverpool is the alleged destination for the 25-year-old Argentine international nicknamed ‘El Pocho’ or, ‘The Chubby One’ due to his heavier days at the start of his playing career, but those days are long gone as the highly rated Serie A star is now valued at €20million.

The ex-San Lorenzo front man would be another exciting addition at Anfield as the Reds continue to rebuild in their quest to become a dominant force in the Barclays Premier League once more.

Having spent in excess of £50million in the January transfer window, Liverpool owners NESV have clearly outlined their plans to return the Merseyside club to its former glories and have targeted winning the league title again within the next two seasons.

Kenny Dalglish has already strengthened his attacking options with the additions of Luis Suarez and Andy Carroll who both came to Anfield in big-money deals, but the spending doesn’t look set to stop there with a whole host of names continually linked with a move to Liverpool when the transfer window reopens in the summer.

Described by as a skilful player who likes to play in the hole behind one or two strikers, Lavezzi could be exactly what Kop fans are looking for to improve their beloved club’s fortunes.

However, a potential stumbling block for Liverpool officials could be how they can convince Lavezzi to leave Champions League bound Napoli, who are currently second in Serie A behind leaders AC Milan.

With the Reds likely to miss out on fourth place this season they will only be able to offer Europa League football, but Kenny Dalglish will hope that Liverpool’s long-term vision will be enough to sway the player to move to Anfield.
