Andy Robertson is probably the best left-back in world football right now. It’s remarkable to think the Scotland international cost Liverpool just £8 million back in July 2017.He’s surely one of the best pound-for-pound signings the Reds have ever made.Robertson was on the winning team yet again on Saturday evening as Liverpool sealed a 2-0 victory over Tottenham in north London.Roberto Firmino’s first-half strike was the only goal of the game as the Reds moved 16 points clear at the top of the Premier League table.

However, many football fans on social media believe Robertson should have been shown a straight red card for a rather dangerous-looking challenge on Japhet Tanganga.

Watch the challenge here...

They couldn’t believe the left-back went unpunished by referee Martin Atkinson, and were just as puzzled that the tackle wasn’t reviewed by VAR.

Some were quick to point out that Arsenal striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was sent off for a similar incident against Crystal Palace earlier in the day.

The Gabon international was initially shown a yellow card for his challenge on Max Meyer, but he was then given his marching orders shortly afterwards after VAR reviewed the incident.

Why VAR wasn’t used to review Robertson’s challenge on Tanganga is currently unclear.

But this would appear to be yet another example of the controversial technology not being used consistently at the highest level of English football.
