Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson has proved all his doubters wrong over the past two years. For a while, many considered the former Sunderland man to be just an average run of the mill midfielder, one not capable of starting regularly for a top side. Now, he's the key man in England's midfield and is the inspirational captain of the European and world champions. He'll probably be lifting the Premier League trophy with the armband on come May as well.Henderson is also far from a passenger in this great Liverpool side, he is in fact one of Jurgen Klopp's key men and his improvement under the German has typified the manager's reign.

During yesterday's 1-0 win away at Tottenham, Henderson didn't have his best performance but he did enough to help see the Reds over the line.

One of the 29-year-old's finest qualities is his honesty and he's never one to shy away from aiming criticism at either himself or a Liverpool performance.

That was certainly the case at full-time against Spurs, as the cameras appeared to spot Henderson telling Klopp after a hug: "It's not good enough, it's s**t."

Only one question remains; was he criticising the team's performance or his own?

If it was the collective group, match-winner Firmino and goalkeeping colossus Alisson Becker should both have been eliminated from the equation, with the Brazilian duo excelling in north London.

But regardless, it is just refreshing to see Henderson - the captain of the world's best team - remaining grounded despite Liverpool being 16 points clear at the top with 20 wins from 21 games.

One Liverpool fan wrote on Twitter in response: "That’s the mentality our captain has even after another win against a top side and breaking the record for the best start to a season in Europe’s top 5 leagues ever. Our captain."

Another quipped: "This is a team that has 61 points out of 63 and sits 16 points clear atop the Premier League yet they still expect more. The mentality installed in this team is something else."

There's a reason Klopp calls these players 'mentality monsters'!
