Zlatan Ibrahimovic recorded an average sprint speed of 21.6m/h vs Cagliari

Cagliari Calcio v AC Milan - Serie A

Zlatan Ibrahimovic was never likely to fade into obscurity during the twilight of his career.

While the MLS is often the final destination for many players of his calibre, the Swede has rejoined Milan on a six-month deal, which includes the option for another season.

Ibrahimovic - who played for the Rossoneri from 2010 to 2012 - earned his first start under Stefano Pioli on Saturday after making a second-half cameo against Sampdoria on Monday.

Leading the line alongside Rafael Leao, the veteran striker didn’t look at all off the pace despite being away from European football for two years.

In fact, Ibrahimovic was key to securing Milan’s first win in their last four matches.

Scoring for the first time since his return, he doubled the visitors’ advantage following Leao’s 46th-minute opener.

However, perhaps most impressively, he clocked the second-fastest average top speed of any player on the pitch.

According to the official Serie A match report, Ibrahimovic recorded an average sprint velocity of 32.45 km/h (21.6 m/h) - the third-fastest of any Serie A player this weekend.

Not bad for a man who stands at 6’5”, let alone at the age of 38.

Ibrahimovic also registered the most efforts at goal with two on target and one going wide.

But the one that matters was a deft first-time strike with his weaker left foot, guiding the ball into the far corner from Theo Hernandez’s low cross.

It could well be the first of many this season if Ibrahimovic continues to look as sharp as he did at the Sardegna Arena.

In anticipation of netting his first goal at home, Ibrahimovic said, per BBC Sport: “I'll celebrate like a God at San Siro, not here.

“The important thing is that I feel good. I missed a few balls at the beginning of the game, but I need to play games to get back in shape.

“I feel good, the coach just wanted to think about my age and see if I needed a rest, but there's no problem.

“My brain is always the same and the body has to follow.”

We look forward to seeing what Ibra has in store for us in the coming weeks.
