Cristiano Ronaldo rolls back the years with skill against Chris Smalling

Sunday night’s Serie A clash between AS Roma and Juventus saw two players that Manchester United fans know very well going head-to-head for the first time in Italy.

Chris Smalling was faced with the unenviable task of stopping Cristiano Ronaldo and co. at the Stadio Olimpico.

But with just 10 minutes on the clock, Juve had already taken a 2-0 lead thanks to goals from Merih Demiral and, you got it, Ronaldo himself.

Demiral broke the deadlock with a neat finish at the back-post before Ronaldo doubled the visitors’ advantage from the penalty spot.

Full of confidence, Ronaldo then decided to roll back the years after finding himself one-on-one with Smalling.

After latching on to a long pass inside the box, Ronaldo brought the ball down and span Smelling with a beautiful piece of skill before hitting a cross from the byline with his left foot.

And here’s an even better angle showing Ronaldo’s skill in slow-motion…

Love that, Cristiano!

We don’t see Ronaldo producing too many skills these days, but the 34-year-old just couldn’t resist after finding himself up against Smalling.

Let’s check out some of the best reaction on social media…

If Juve seal all three points from this fixture then they will leapfrog leaders Inter into top spot.

Roma, meanwhile, will remain fourth in the table.

Smalling has impressed during his loan spell in Italy and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer may well decide to use the England international again next season.

But he’s going viral for the wrong reason this evening.
