In what is known as the largest women's sporting event in the Arab world, fifth-time participants Egypt have confirmed their involvement in the Arab Women Sports Tournament (AWST) next month in Sharjah.

Representing four renowned clubs in Egypt, the confirmed participants will be one of the 16 Arab countries competing across nine sports precisely, shooting, table tennis, athletics, show jumping, archery, basketball, volleyball, fencing, and karate. Egypt will only compete in the latter four disciplines. 

In total, the Egyptian team owns 28 medals from previous AWST tournaments, 13 of those were won in 2018.

Nada Askar Al Naqbi, Deputy Head of AWST's Supreme Organising Committee, Head of its Executive Committee, and Director General of SWS said: "Egypt has always been superb in sports. It has a long history of brilliance and innovation in sports, including women's sports.

"The country's dedication to enhancing the capabilities of women in sports is reflected in the nation's unrivalled representation at AWST as they [participants] play with the utmost professionalism to defend their titles, inspiring peers from other countries. We look forward to Egypt bringing a high level of excellence and sporting spirit to AWST 2020," she added.

The competition commences on February 2 - 12.
