Manchester United fans are desperately hoping that a deal for Bruno Fernandes can be agreed in the coming days.

The Sporting Lisbon midfielder is keen on a move to Old Trafford, according to BBC Sport, while the two clubs have held face-to-face talks over a potential transfer.

The Daily Mail, however, add that United and Sporting are still some way apart in their valuation of the Portugal international, who scored 33 goals in 53 matches last season.

Sporting, who held talks with United in London last Friday, have demanded a transfer fee in the region of £64 million.

But United are currently offering the Portuguese side £50 million, plus a further £10 million in add-ons.

Fernandes, who has scored 15 goals in 25 games for Sporting this season, would inject some much-needed quality to United’s threadbare midfield.

As well as posing a goalscoring threat from deep, the 25-year-old is also a fantastic passer of the ball and has registered 20 league assists for his current employers over the past season-and-a-half.

But it’s not only his impressive statistics that are exciting Man Utd supporters on social media.

A video has emerged showing Fernandes reacting badly after being sent off against Boavista earlier this season - and United fans are loving the fact he has some fire in his belly.

The footage shows Fernandes kicking a door in anger and swearing at staff inside Boavista’s Estádio do Bessa Século XXI following his 91st-minute red card.

One Twitter user has provided more context about the incident…

A bad reaction, perhaps, but United fans feel they’ve lacked a ’s*hithouse’ since Ander Herrera left Old Trafford for Paris Saint-Germain in the summer.

And Fernandes, who scored Sporting’s goal in September’s 1-1 draw against Boavista, at least has a bit about him according to this footage.

With the exception of Scott McTominay, United lack a midfielder with bite right now.

Fred has proven himself to be a half-decent player in recent weeks but does he possess the winning mentality required to inspire Man Utd?

Paul Pogba is always injured these days and reportedly wants out, Nemanja Matic is past his best, Juan Mata is far too nice, while it would also be hard to see either Jesse Lingard or Andreas Pereira kicking off like this.

Even if his reaction on that occasion wasn’t ideal, Fernandes is clearly a passionate player who cares - and that’s all United fans want from any new signing.
