Fara Williams has signed a new contract with Reading, keeping her at Adams Park until the end of the 2020-21 season.

Williams holds the record for the most England appearances of all-time with 172, having made her debut for the Lionesses in 2001 against Portugal at the age of 17 - She scored her first international goal in February 2002, in the reverse fixture. 

Her last appearance for Phil Neville's side came in September.

The 35-year-old represented Great Britain at the 2012 summer Olympics, making five appearances.

Fara was awarded an MBE for her services to football and charity in the 2016 New Years Honours. 

The midfielder joined the Royals from Arsenal in 2017 and has played for clubs such as Liverpool, Everton, Charlton, and Chelsea - the team she supports.

She is currently Reading's joint-top goalscorer this season with six goals in all competitions.

The 35-year-old was named Liverpool's player of the season in 2015 but is yet to win any trophies at club level. She has however won three Cyprus Cups in 2009, 2013, and 2015 with England, and was runner-up in the UEFA European Women's Championship in 2009.

Fara was part of the Lionesses' side that finish third at the 2015 Women's World Cup.

In the absence of Welsh international Natasha Harding through injury, Williams has captained the Royals several times. - they currently sit fourth in the Women's Super League table with 17 points.

Her previous deal was set to expire at the end of the season.
