Manchester United's 2019/20 squad: Every player’s current market value compared to start of season

Manchester United v Rochdale AFC - Carabao Cup Third Round

There have been more lows than highs for Manchester United fans this season, but it hasn’t all been doom and gloom.

The Red Devils have a chance of sealing a top-four finish, they’re through to the Europa League Round of 32 and some of the players are really kicking on, including Scott McTominay, Mason Greenwood and, of course, Marcus Rashford.

They’ve registered wins over the likes of Manchester City and Tottenham, and are the only Premier League team to have stopped Liverpool from sealing all three points this season.

But Man Utd fans are used to being at the top and seeing their side in fifth place, 27 points behind league-leaders Liverpool, is considered unacceptable by many.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is still a manager under considerable pressure, with Mauricio Pochettino among the available coaches reportedly waiting in the wings to take over from the under-fire Norwegian.

After such a topsy-turvy start to the 2019-20 season, we thought it’d be interesting to see how every Man Utd players’ market value has been affected since the summer.

All of the values are provided courtesy of Transfermarkt.com.

David de Gea

Value in the summer: £58.5m
Current value: £54m

A slight decrease in market value for the Spaniard who, rightly or wrongly, is no longer widely regarded as the best goalkeeper in world football. He’s still one of the best in the Premier League, mind.

Sheffield United v Manchester United - Premier League

Sergio Romero

Value in the summer: £3.1m
Current value: £3.1m

Arguably the best back-up ‘keeper about, Romero’s value remains unchanged, although £3.1m seems rather low for Argentina’s No. 1.

Wolverhampton Wanderers v Manchester United - FA Cup Third Round

Lee Grant

Value in the summer: £675k
Current value: £675k

The 36-year-old is still worth £675,000 - which is about the same price as a posh’ish family home in England.

Southampton FC v Manchester United - Premier League

Harry Maguire

Value in the summer: £63m
Current value: £63m

Maguire cost more than £63 million in the summer but he wasn’t worth the £80 million that Man Utd forked out, according to Transfermarkt. In any case, the centre-back’s price stays the same.

FBL-ENG-PR-MAN UTD-NORWICH

Victor Lindelof

Value in the summer: £31.5m
Current value: £31.5m

Nobody has managed to dribble past Lindelof in the Premier League this season - but the Swedish defender’s valuation is nowhere near Virgil van Dijk’s (and, let’s be honest, rightly so…).

Manchester City v Manchester United - Premier League

Eric Bailly

Value in the summer: £22.5m
Current value: £19.8m

Poor old Bailly is permanently injured these days. Is his time at Old Trafford up? It’s beginning to feel that way.

Manchester United v Chelsea FC - Premier League

Phil Jones

Value in the summer: £13.5m
Current value: £10.8m

Phil Jones has now been a Manchester United player for nine years. NINE! The much-maligned defender is still only 27 but his market value is now just £10.8 million.

Manchester United v Manchester City - Carabao Cup: Semi Final

Marcos Rojo

Value in the summer: £9m
Current value: £9m

Another player who Man Utd probably should have sold a long time ago. The Argentine could be off before the January transfer window closes.

FBL-ENG-LCUP-MAN UTD-ROCHDALE

Axel Tuanzebe

Value in the summer: £6.3m
Current value: £9m

The 22-year-old, who spent last season on loan at Aston Villa, has made a handful of appearances in both the league and cup competitions for United this season, and has seen his market value rise by a few million quid.

Manchester United v FK Astana: Group L - UEFA Europa League

Luke Shaw

Value in the summer: £27m
Current value: £19.8m

Shaw was named Man Utd’s Player of the Year last season; however, the left-back has been disappointing in recent months and his market value has dropped below the £20 million mark as a result.

Arsenal FC v Manchester United - Premier League

Brandon Williams

Value in the summer: N/A
Current value: £6.3m

The 19-year-old is a huge talent and is already well on his way to cementing his status as United’s first-choice left-back, ahead of the aforementioned Shaw.

Manchester United v Norwich City - Premier League

Ashley Young

Value in the summer: £4.5m
Current value: £3.6m

Inter Milan are poised to add the 34-year-old Man Utd captain to their ranks in the summer.

Burnley FC v Manchester United - Premier League

Cameron Borthwick-Jackson

Value in the summer: £2.7m
Current value: £900k

Recently recalled after a failed loan spell at League One side Tranmere Rovers, it’s fair to assume the former England Under-20 international probably doesn’t have a future at Old Trafford.

Wycombe Wanderers v Tranmere Rovers - FA Cup First Round Replay

Aaron Wan-Bissaka

Value in the summer: £36m
Current value: £36m

Like Maguire, Transfermarkt clearly feel that Man Utd paid over the odds for Aaron Wan-Bissaka, who set the Red Devils back £50 million in the summer. Nevertheless, the right-back has impressed during the early stages of his United career - defensively, at least!

FBL-ENG-PR-MAN UTD-BRIGHTON

Diogo Dalot

Value in the summer: £18m
Current value: £18m

We haven’t seen much of Dalot this season, but the Portuguese full-back is still only 20 years old. He has plenty of time to prove himself at the Theatre of Dreams.

FBL-EUR-C3-MAN UTD-ASTANA

Timothy Fosu-Mensah

Value in the summer: £6.3m
Current value: £6.3m

The 22-year-old defender has spent the past nine months sidelined with a cruciate injury but recently made his return to action for United’s Under-23 side. Can he force his way into the first team over the coming months?

Crystal Palace v Fulham FC - Premier League

Nemanja Matic

Value in the summer: £22.5m
Current value: £18m

The Serbian midfielder, who turned 31 in August, is still a useful squad player but his best days are clearly behind him.

Manchester United v Norwich City - Premier League

Paul Pogba

Value in the summer: £90m
Current value: £90m

Despite spending most of the season on the treatment table, Pogba’s market value (£90 million) remains unaffected, which is potentially good news for Real Madrid and a couple of other clubs.

FRANCE-GUINEA-FBL-FRA-GUI-CHARITY

Scott McTominay

Value in the summer: £18m
Current value: £25.2m

Jose Mourinho was spot on about Scott McTominay - the 23-year-old is quality. United are a much more solid team with the Scotland midfielder in it.

Watford FC v Manchester United - Premier League

Fred

Value in the summer: £22.5m
Current value: £19.8m

Fred is turning things around for himself at Old Trafford following an unconvincing start and has shown Man Utd fans why the club splashed out a cool £52 million for his services in the first place. Despite that, the Brazilian’s market value has still dropped to £19.8 million.

FBL-ENG-PR-MAN UTD-NORWICH

Andreas Pereira

Value in the summer: £13.5m
Current value: £18m

Many United fans aren’t convinced the 24-year-old is good enough, but Solskjaer clearly believes otherwise. Pereira’s market value has increased by almost £5 million in recent months following a sustained run in the first team.

FBL-ENG-PR-MAN CITY-MAN UTD

Juan Mata

Value in the summer: £18m
Current value: £13.5m

Mata is a fine footballer but he’s no longer regarded as one of the Premier League’s best attacking midfielders, as was the case when he joined the Red Devils from Chelsea in 2014. Now 31, Mata’s market value is edging ever closer to the £10 million mark.

Manchester United v Newcastle United - Premier League

Daniel James

Value in the summer: £22.5m
Current value: £25.2m

The Welsh winger made a fantastic start to his United career, scoring three goals in his first four appearances, but hasn’t been as effective in recent months. The 22-year-old is still learning, however, and has seen his value rise slightly to just over £25 million.

Manchester United v Crystal Palace - Premier League

Jesse Lingard

Value in the summer: £36m
Current value: £28.8m

Putting the cruel jokes to one side for one moment, it would genuinely be nice to see Lingard rediscover his form and confidence. The 27-year-old failed to register a single Premier League goal or assist in 2019 and has seen his value drop to £28.8 million as a result. A move away from Old Trafford in the summer seems likely.

FBL-ENG-PR-MAN UTD-EVERTON

Marcus Rashford

Value in the summer: £72m
Current value: £72m

With 19 goals in 30 games this season, surely Rashford’s market value should have risen substantially since the summer? Transfermarkt believe the 22-year-old is still worth £72 million, but there’s no way Man Utd would accept an offer in that region for their best attacking player.

Manchester United v Norwich City - Premier League

Anthony Martial

Value in the summer: £54m
Current value: £54m

Martial has netted 11 goals in 22 matches so far this term and appears to be becoming more consistent - although we probably shouldn’t speak too soon. The Frenchman is certainly enjoying life under Solskjaer right now.

Manchester United v Norwich City - Premier League

Mason Greenwood

Value in the summer: £9m
Current value: £18m

A serious talent, Greenwood is only 18 years old but has already scored nine goals in 26 games for United this season. Transfermarkt’s valuation of £18 million seems way too low, in our opinion. We’re surely looking at over the £30 million mark for this potential superstar.

FBL-ENG-PR-MAN UTD-NEWCASTLE

So, there we have it. These valuations reflect Man Utd’s season: it’s been a mixed bag.

While some players have seen their market values decrease after a difficult few months, others have seen their values rise after enhancing their reputations.

The likes of Williams, McTominay, Greenwood and Rashford show there are reasons for United’s frustrated fans to feel quietly optimistic about the future.
