How do you improve a side that has picked up 61 points from a possible 63 this season?

That’s the question that Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp will need to find the answer to in future transfer windows.

The European and world champions have already added Takumi Minamino to their squad this month with the Japanese star set to add a bit of competition to the front-three and the midfield.

But Klopp is still looking for ways to improve his incredible squad.

The Reds didn’t sign a single first-team player last summer. Surely the club will open up the purse strings this summer.

Well, if reports are to be believed, they might just smash their club-record transfer fee.

The £75 million they spent on Virgil van Dijk in January 2017 is the most they’ve ever coughed up for a player.

But they could eclipse that by splashing £107m on Kai Havertz.

Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo have cited German media that the Premier League leaders are “willing to bet heavily” on the 20-year-old midfielder from Bayer Leverkusen.

The wonderkid was linked to a host of European clubs last summer but decided to stay at the BayArena having helped them qualify for Champions League football.

His 17 goals in 34 Bundesliga matches unsurprisingly caught the attention.

But with Bayer in sixth this season and looking unlikely to qualify for next season’s Champions League, it now looks the perfect time for Havertz to take his career to the next level.

According to the report, he’s “very interested” in a move to Liverpool and the club’s offer is “very serious.”

Adam Lallana’s contract expires at the end of the season and James Milner is now 33-years-old. While there’s also some doubt over the long-term future of Georginio Wijnaldum.

As you’d expect, there are plenty of other clubs sniffing around - including Manchester United - but Liverpool have already made contact with Havertz and are leading the race for his signature.

GIVEMESPORT’s Rob Hoskin says: There’s no doubt about it, Havertz is a serious talent.

He hasn’t quite replicated his 2018/19 form this campaign but he’d be a valuable addition to this Liverpool squad.

But will the club splash a club-record fee on a player that is far from guaranteed to start every week?

The German would provide competition for that third midfield position - the No.8 role that the likes of Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain have failed to nail down.

But he can also provide competition to winger Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah on the wings - especially considering the recent news that the 2021 AFCON could take place in January/February.

We’re not saying there’s a guarantee it will happen but it’s certainly a transfer we should keep an eye on ahead of this summer.
