Mason Greenwood is certainly catching the eye after breaking into Manchester United's first-team plans this season.

The 18-year-old striker has scored four Premier League goals in his 17 appearances, with only two of those coming as starts.

His unique striking technique has seen him likened to United legend Robin van Persie and the sky really is the limit for the teenage sensation.

However, should Greenwood be considered for England's upcoming Euro 2020 squad?

It's a debate that is surely to last until the end of the season, but it seems manager Gareth Southgate is already seriously considering adding the United starlet to his roster for the tournament.

As per the Daily Mail, a source claims that should Greenwood continue to impress in the United first-team up until the end of the season, he will be in the England squad.

The source said: "Gareth likes Mason and has made his feelings clear. He is a strong candidate to make the squad.

"Callum Hudson-Odoi was selected before he had even played a Premier League match for Chelsea - Mason has already played 20 times. They like everything about him, his technique, the lack of backlift when he strikes the ball.

"They are very keen and if he continues to get games and goals, it is hard to see him not making the cut."

It would be a bold call by Southgate, especially with the litany of strikers available to the Three Lions manager.

Harry Kane is expected to be fit for the tournament, with Marcus Rashford and Tammy Abraham guaranteed to make the squad - barring injuries.

Then you have free-scoring pair Danny Ings and Dominic Calvert-Lewin waiting in the wings for a call up and - if he rediscovers his Midas touch - Callum Wilson.

Omitting one of those three in favour of Greenwood would be rather controversial and would add more weight to the argument that players in the top six get preferential treatment from England managers.

Ings in particular is the most deserving of a call up after scoring 14 goals already this season for Southampton - and he's still just 27.

Instead of focusing on Greenwood, maybe Southgate should divert his attention towards integrating Aston Villa talisman Jack Grealish before the start of the European Championships.
