There will be no other rivalry like that of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.

The pair went head to head in La Liga for almost a decade, playing for the world's two best teams - Barcelona and Real Madrid.

It's fair to say absolutely dominated football, breaking countless records while winning a ridiculous number of trophies and individual accolades.

Messi and Ronaldo also seriously split supporters, making their rivalry even more intense. In the eyes of some, Barca's star holds the G.O.A.T crown. But for many others, CR7 is the best ever.

While fans love to debate everything about them, the pair themselves have been famously tight-lipped about each other.

But more recently, both men have started to open up about one-another and this week, Messi admitted their rivalry will be remembered forever.

"It was a duel that will last forever because it went on for many years," the Argentine told La Liga on DAZN, per GOAL.

"It isn’t easy to keep at your highest level for so long - especially at those two clubs we were at, which were so demanding, in Madrid and Barca, the best in the world.

"Competing head to head for so many years will be remembered forever. The sporting rivalry between us was very nice on a personal level.

"I think that the fans also enjoyed it, be they Madrid or Barca supporters, and those who just like football will also have enjoyed it."

We're certainly not arguing with Messi about any of that. He and Ronaldo have been on another level for over a decade now.

It's impossible to imagine what the game would have been like if they hadn't existed.

Although the pair aren't in direct competition in La Liga anymore, it's important to enjoy the remainder of their careers and respect just how much they still do in different leagues.
