Fran Alonso has been appointed Celtic Women's Head Coach ahead of their first season as a professional club.

Alonso joins the Scottish outfit after 13 months in charge of Women's Championship side Lewes.

The Spaniard is former assistant manager to Ronald Koeman, while the pair were at Everton, and was also a technical coach under Mauricio Pochettino at Southampton.

The 42-year-old's decision to leave East Sussex for Glasgow was something he couldn't turn down:

"When Celtic want you, you can't say no," he said. "Celtic is about passion, heart and soul, about the love of great attacking football."

Lewes wasn't his first role in women's football, having been Southampton's technical director during his tenure at the club.

Fran takes over from Eddie Wolecki Black at the K-Park Training Academy. Black guided Celtic to a third-place finish in both 2018 and 2019 in the Scottish Women's Premier League One. He has now taken up the role as head of women's football department at Motherwell.

Talking to the club's website, Alonso has said the following:

"I know the team are very together, focused on the future and focused on improving and committed to working hard to achieve our objectives,

"I also know that Celtic has real ambition and purpose around its women's team and I wanted to be a major part of that."

The Spaniard's former assistant at Lewes Simon Parker will replace him at the helm of the WC club.

Celtic's 2020 season begins in February, but they will travel to Gran Canaria this weekend for a training camp.
