With the amount of money football clubs make from television and commercial deals these days, it's hardly surprising that some fans feel the matchday experience has suffered.

But matchday revenue is still very important and getting supporters through the turnstiles remains a top priority.

With stadiums around the continent getting even bigger, teams have the chance to make ridiculous amounts of money from ticket sales alone.

But which of Europe's top football clubs currently have the highest gate receipts?

Check out the top 20 - according to UEFA's annual Club Licensing Benchmarking Report - below.

20 - AC Milan | £32 million (€37m)

19 - Lyon | £32 million (€37m)

18 - West Ham | £33 million (€38m)

17 - Eintracht Frankfurt | £35 million (€41m)

16 - Celtic | £36 million (€42m)

15 - Roma | £36 million (€42m)

14 - Borussia Dortmund | £36 million (€42m)

13 - Athletic Bilbao | £40 million (€47m)

So there we have it. Spain's top two teams make more money than any other club from gate receipts.

But that was easy to predict given just how big both Camp Nou and the Bernabeu are. Actually, there aren't really many shocks in the top five.

Further back though, it's very interesting. Despite having a capacity of 42,000, Chelsea still managed to come ninth on the list, only behind teams with far bigger grounds.

Athletic Bilbao in 13th is also quite a shock. The team never really challenge for the La Liga title, but their fans are very committed and often sell out the 53,000 seater San Mames Stadium.

West Ham are often criticised for failing to draw capacity crowds to the London Stadium, but their ticket sales prove that the move from Upton Park has been beneficial.

It's also good to see clubs like Eintracht Frankfurt, Celtic and Lyon feature on the list, even though they do still come in behind the usual suspects of Barca, Madrid and Man United.
