European league football has passed the halfway mark for the 2019/20 season.

Liverpool are on course to win their maiden Premier League trophy, while Paris Saint-Germain and Juventus are in prime position to maintain their monopolies over Ligue 1 and Serie A.

Meanwhile, RB Leipzig are lining up a shock in the Bundesliga with a five-point lead over Bayern Munich and only goal difference separates Real Madrid and Barcelona at the La Liga summit.

Pretty exciting stuff and that's before you even consider the thrills and spills we can expect from the Champions League and Europa League when they return in February.

But in the mean time, there has been enough European action for football fans to look into some of the key statistics and Bleacher Report ran the maths for one of the most intriguing data-sets.

Europe's best strike partnerships

That's because they sought to calculate Europe's most prolific strike partnerships earlier this week, ordering the highest goal-scoring duos from across the top five leagues by their combined tally.

The positions of the players don't strictly matter and assists are used to settle any draws along the way, so check out the nine top-scoring pairings to find out who's ruling the continent right now:

9. Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane (Liverpool)

Stats: 29 goals and 19 assists

Considering Liverpool are the best team in Europe right now, it might come as a surprise to see this all-African pairing so low down, but the Reds are experts at spreading goals amongst their squad.

=7. Marcus Rashford and Mason Greenwood (Manchester United)

Stats: 30 goals and nine assists

It's so impressive considering United's struggles that their young, English duo have made the list with an average age of 20, even if many of Greenwood's strikes have come in cup competitions.

=7. Joaquin Correa and Ciro Immobile (Lazio)

Stats: 30 goals and nine assists

This is undoubtedly one of the most lop-sided duos on the list with Immobile contributing 76% of the goals and it was simply a case of Correa being the next most prolific player in the team.

6. Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez (Barcelona)

Stats: 30 goals and 20 assists

You can't go wrong with two of the greatest players of the last 10 years in your front-line, but the GOAT will now have to do the work alone after confirmation of Suarez's four-month injury lay-out.

5. Lautaro Martinez and Romelu Lukaku (Inter Milan)

Stats: 33 goals and seven assists

Lukaku has looked like a player reborn in Italy with 18 goals in 25 games, while nobody in world football has seen a bigger rise in transfer value than Martinez since the start of the season.

4. Timo Werner and Marcel Sabitzer (RB Leipzig)

Stats: 34 goals and 17 assists

A bit like the Lazio situation, this is largely down to one player and his name is Werner with a brilliant 23 strikes in 25 matches, but don't write off Sabitzer with his most prolific start in the Bundesliga.

3. Raheem Sterling and Sergio Aguero (Manchester City)

Stats: 38 goals and nine assists

Talk about evenly matched. With a stunning hat-trick at Aston Villa, Aguero elevated his tally to 18 goals and is now just two strikes behind Sterling as the top scorer for Pep Guardiola's side.

2. Mauro Icardi and Kylian Mbappe (Paris Saint-Germain)

Stats: 38 goals and 15 assists

It's no surprise that Mbappe makes up half of this duo after almost winning last season's European Golden Shoe, but all credit goes to the 17 goals of Icardi to edge out Edinson Cavani and Neymar.

1. Robert Lewandowski and Serge Gnabry (Bayern Munich)

Stats: 41 goals and 10 assists

Unless you've been living under a rock this season, you know Lewandowski has been playing some otherworldly football (30 goals already!?) and Gnabry has chipped in double figures for good luck.

GIVEMESPORT's Kobe Tong says

If ever there was a demonstration for why this current Liverpool team is so incredible, it's this list.

The fact Mane and Salah have barely made the top 10 strike partnerships, yet they're running away with the Premier League as European and world champions, hammers home how complete their side is.

Many of these teams have been relying on their front-line this season and others simply won't be able to replicate their impressive numbers on the Champions League stage.

As for Bayern coming out on top, they simply have Lewandowski - the best number nine on the planet - to thank for their position.

And I'm afraid the jury will remain out on Mbappe's consistent goal scoring until we see him replicate those Ligue 1 numbers against tougher sides and on bigger stages.

However, perhaps it makes sense that the team in position number nine has, albeit in team performance as opposed to raw goal-scoring, been the greatest number nines.
