Liverpool are marching towards the Premier League title.

Manchester United would dearly love to put a dent in the Reds' invincible record, already being the only team to take points off them all season in the 1-1 draw at Old Trafford in October.

Yet even if Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side emerge unscathed from their trip to Anfield, they will know full well that the result is unlikely to alter the outcome of the title race either way.

United's chances seem particularly slim with the likes of Scott McTominay, Paul Pogba, and likely Marcus Rashford on the treatment table.

On top of that, Liverpool simply do not lose at home in the Premier League.

Crystal Palace were the last time to pierce the walls of what has become an impenetrable fortress, winning 2-1 on Merseyside back on April 23, 2017.

Christian Benteke netted a brace to undo his former employers after Philippe Coutinho had opened the scoring.

That was exactly 1000 days ago today.

In that time, Manchester City have lost four and Manchester United six at their respective stadia.

It just goes to show that for all the records Liverpool have broken this season - including the best ever start to a campaign ever in Europe's top five leagues after beating Tottenham 1-0 (with 20 wins and one draw) - their dominance has been a long time in the making.

In 2018/19, they became the only team in history to earn 97 points and not win the league, pipped to the post by Manchester City on 98.

Klopp's men are now just a matter of months away from exacting revenge and even their harshest critics cannot say it's not thoroughly deserved.

Anfield is now the toughest ground in England for visiting teams, but it's also over a year since the European champions last lost a league game on the road - their 2-1 defeat to Manchester City last January.

Their run at home has been nothing short of astonishing.
