Inter Milan's announcement video for Ashley Young is genuinely embarrassing

During his brief spell in England, Antonio Conte must have liked what he saw at Manchester United.

Yes, the Red Devils finished sixth and the Italian spent half the season calling Jose Mourinho a “little man”, but he clearly admired some of their players.

The Inter Milan boss had already taken Alexis Sanchez and Romelu Lukaku off United’s hands and he’s now completed the set with the signing of Ashley Young.

The 34-year-old has joined the Nerazzurri on an initial six-month deal after completing a £1.3 million (€1.5m) switch.

The former England international was a loyal servant at Old Trafford, making 261 appearances and winning five trophies over the course of eight-and-a-half seasons, having joined from Aston Villa in 2011.

The fact is it was time for him to move on and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has started him on just 10 occasions in the Premier League.

At Inter, he’ll bolster their full-back options as they try and hunt down Juventus at the top of Serie A.

Thanks to the Conte revolution, Young probably has a much more realistic chance of winning silverware at the San Siro and likewise, the 18-time Italian champions are excited about having him on board.

So much so, that they have reverted to unveiling his signing with an announcement video.

In the past few years, plenty of clubs have hopped on the social media trend, some to better effect than others.

It’s safe to say this was one of the worst for quite some time.

“When Inter won everything, I was Young,” it begins.

“When the last English player joined this club, I was young.”

And so on and so forth, you get the idea.

It’s possibly even worse than Sanchez being revealed with the Chilean playing ‘Glory, Glory, Man United’ on the piano when he joined from Arsenal.

You have to admire Inter for whacking in, “when I played 45 times in 2019, I was Young” – a wonderful attempt to convince their fans that they’re not signing a past-it full-back if ever there was one.

To his credit, the veteran has still been fit enough to make 18 appearances in all competitions this season.

In truth, it’s by no means a bad acquisition for Inter. If only they hadn’t ruined it with the video.
