In the end it was all too easy for Conor McGregor, who defeated Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone inside one minute at UFC 246.

It took McGregor 40 seconds to secure the 22nd victory of his professional MMA career.

This was the Irishman’s first bout since losing to Khabib Nurmagomedov in October 2018 - and he made light work of his opponent at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

The 31-year-old landed a powerful left kick to Cerrone’s head during the opening seconds before dropping his opponent and finishing the fight in style.

Referee Herb Dean intervened and waved off the contest as McGregor threatened to do some serious damage to Cerrone.

While McGregor’s victory may have impressed many UFC fans, the Notorious’s performance sparked a flurry of dismissive tweets from a certain Nate Diaz.

The 34-year-old, who defeated McGregor at UFC 196 in March 2016 before losing to the superstar at UFC 202 five months later, was in no mood to congratulate his former opponent on social media.

First of all, Diaz tweeted: “Weak as f***”.

He then added: “And why the f*** u in a robe Smh”.

And then he tweeted: “This s**** all fake.”

It seems Diaz might be gearing himself for a potential third fight with McGregor - and that’s something all fight fans would love to see….

One thing’s for sure: this weekend’s victory means McGregor will have plenty of options on the table moving forward.

Floyd Mayweather has already teased a potential rematch between himself and the UFC icon.

But a rematch with Khabib is surely the dream…
