Liverpool were controversially denied a second goal during their clash with Manchester United. After taking the lead through a Virgil van Dijk header during the 14th minute, they looked to have put the game to bed before the half-hour mark thanks to a strike from Roberto Firmino.Once again, a Trent Alexander-Arnold cross was the instigating factor and it was Van Dijk challenging for the ball when the moment of controversy unfolded at Anfield. That's because United 'keeper David De Gea rose to collect the ball, but fumbled the catch under pressure from Van Dijk and Liverpool ultimately regained possession. That allowed Firmino to pick up the ball and provide a stunning finish that looked to be his first in the Premier League on Merseyside all season long.

Liverpool goal disallowed by VAR

However, VAR - which is so often accused of favouring Liverpool - decided that the goal should be disallowed for the challenge on De Gea.

It wasn't until after the United players had kicked up a furious protest, though, and no less from De Gea who was quoted by one supporter as looking angrier than ever.

But he needn't have bothered with VAR coming to his rescue, although not everybody is convinced with the final decision.

We'll let you make up your own mind, so check out the incident and the furious response it provoked:

What's that about LiVARpool, then?

And it wasn't the only goal by Liverpool that was chalked off. Georginio Wijnaldum similarly thought that he'd found the net, only for the linesman's flag to deny him in less controversial circumstances.

It seems to have favoured United, too, because at the time of writing, United have started to grow into the game and Andreas Pereira had a glorious chance to unfathomably draw things level.
