Liverpool have moved a mammoth 30 points above Manchester United with a 2-0 win at Anfield on Sunday night.A lot of the intrigue surrounding the match came from the fact United had been the only team to take points off Liverpool this season, coming five minutes away from a 1-0 win at Old Trafford. However, their hopes of another shut out against the league leaders were rattled during the opening 15 minutes and it came courtesy of one of their deadliest weapons: Trent Alexander-Arnold.The world's best right-back delivered an inviting corner that was headed home by Virgil van Dijk, who was strangely being marked by Brandon Williams, to fire Liverpool into an early lead.

It could have been much worse for United, too, with Liverpool threatening to double their lead with two strikes that were chalked off for various reasons.

Liverpool 2-0 Manchester United

First, Roberto Firmino's brilliant strike was erased from the history books after David de Gea - who duly reacted furiously - went down under a challenge from Van Dijk.

VAR deemed that the United 'keeper had been fouled and then just a few minutes later, it was the linesman's flag that came to the away side's aid after Georgino Wijnaldum found the net.

Big chances for both teams

It seemed to give the Red Devils the wake-up call they badly needed, though, inspiring them to venture forward and come inches away from an equaliser thanks to Andreas Pereira.

But normal service was resumed before the half-time break when De Gea was forced to make a brilliant save with his feet to prevent Sadio Mane from putting daylight between the two sides.

And Liverpool flew out of the traps for the second-half with Mohamed Salah bungling a golden opportunity from just five yards and Jordan Henderson rattling the post with a stinging effort.

Anthony Martial then had his five cents in the back and forth action, firing badly wide in front of Alisson Becker's goal.

But only one team was going to score again and that was Liverpool.

Salah finally collected his first goal against United in the red of Liverpool, finishing past De Gea after Alisson bagged himself an assist.

In truth, Liverpool shored up their defence from that point on and fought to the final-whistle to secure their seventh Premier League clean sheet on the bounce.

Now, only West Ham United stand in the way of Liverpool's quest to beat every single Premier League club this season. They're simply unstoppable.
