Liverpool's Alisson has more Premier League assists than Jesse Lingard in 2019/20

Liverpool FC v Manchester United - Premier League

Liverpool rounded off their 2-0 victory over Manchester United in dream fashion on Saturday night.

After Virgil van Dijk gave the Reds an early lead after 15 minutes, the league leaders laboured to extend their advantage with Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah missing golden opportunities.

United were even threatening to become the only team to take points off Liverpool twice over, coming close after Andreas Pereira and Anthony Martial both fluffed major openings.

But the Red Devils were made to pay for their wayward finishing as their final attack ended with the ball in Alisson Becker's hands, which is never good news for a team playing Liverpool.

With United having piled all their outfield players into the final third, Alisson picked out the run of Salah and gave him a clear run at goal a la Fernando Torres vs Barcelona in 2012.

Alisson turns provider

Salah made no mistake. The Egyptian finished calmly past David de Gea to bag his first ever goal against the club, wrapping up the victory and rocketing Liverpool 30 points clear of their rivals.

Alisson even rounded off the unforgettable moment by running the length of the pitch to celebrate with Salah, harking back to a similar gesture from Pepe Reina against the same opposition.

However, Alisson will have more to treasure than the brilliant photographs of the his celebration, because some amusing statistics have emerged after he racked up a Premier League assist.

More assists than Jesse Lingard

Let's just say that a certain outfield player, who was on the bench for United, has now slotted below the Brazilian goalkeeper when it comes to the playmaking standings.

That's right, Jesse Lingard. The England midfield has gone over a year without a goal or assist in the league and this latest observation from football fans is arguably the most damning.

It's never good news when you're a number 10 for United and you've created fewer goals than the man standing between the sticks for Liverpool.

But if it's any consolation for Lingard, there's also the fact that Alisson now has the same number of league assists as Raheem Sterling, Gylfi Sigurdsson and Mesut Ozil this season. Seriously.

We've always known that Alisson has some of the best feet of any goalkeeper in the world, but mixing it with fully fledged playmakers in the assists charts is the strongest evidence yet.

Besides, let that move from defence to attack symbolise that Liverpool's omnipotence has been down to their quality and chemistry from back to front. Teamwork makes the dreamwork.
