Liverpool moved 16 points clear at the top of the Premier League with a 2-0 win over Manchester United on Sunday night.Goals from Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah secured three massive points and many supporters believe this result will be a big, big moment in the title race. But it was yet another defeat for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side. The Red Devils are now a massive 30 points behind their rivals in the league table. It was a tough evening to be a United fan, then. But just spare a thought for Gary Neville, who has to work alongside Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher on Sky Sports. The pair are no doubt friends but after the match, Carra took a moment to remind Neville about a now terrible-looking prediction he made back in August.
- Liverpool's remaining PL fixtures simulated
- Gary Neville loses it on commentary
- Rashford out for 2-3 months with back injury
During a debate five months ago, the former defender claimed United would win the Premier League title again before Liverpool.
No, really. Carragher clearly hasn't forgotten about that either, tweeting a clip and tagging his colleague in it. Check it out:
That certainly doesn't look like a hot take five months on. Here's what Neville said in full on Sky:
"Liverpool, City, Tottenham - all these clubs have had poor recruitment policies over the last 25-30 years at times, so United are going through one at the moment.
"Eventually they’ll stumble across the right recruitment system, the right recruitment people. We’ll get a great manager - hopefully that’s Ole - and they’ll start to win again.
"That’s going to happen, I can guarantee you as clear as day Manchester United will win again, they’ll win again no problem.
"They’ll win a league - probably win the league before Liverpool in my opinion, I’m not being disrespectful."
Hindsight is a wonderful thing. Even the most die-hard Liverpool fan probably couldn't have predicted just how well things would go at Anfield this season.
It was still such a bold prediction from Neville and he probably didn't appreciate being reminded of it so soon after Liverpool's win over Man United.
Who needs enemies when you've got friends like Carragher?
