We saw a change in the way VAR works in Gameweek 23 in the Premier League.

Referees were told to start using pitchside monitors for red card decisions, something in which they weren't previously doing.

And it was something we saw on Saturday as referee Paul Tierney consulted his monitor to upgrade Ben Godfrey's yellow card to a red card during Norwich vs Bournemouth.

Thankfully, the weekend passed without seeing a goal ruled out by those ridiculously drawn lines by VAR.

But that's not to say we didn't witness some controversy.

Perhaps the most controversial moment came at Anfield when Roberto Firmino's goal was ruled out by VAR for Virgil van Dijk's 'foul' on David de Gea just seconds previously.

As you probably know by now, we here at GIVEMESPORT attempt to take VAR out of the equation altogether.

Therefore, we produce a 'What the Premier League table would look without VAR' every week.

We look back at the previous gameweek and identify all of the overturned VAR decisions. We then work out how it's impacted the match in question and update the table accordingly.

And here is the 'VAR table' after the latest gameweek:

1st | Liverpool | Points: 60 | Points difference: -4

Game: Manchester United (H)

Incident: Robert Firmino thought he had put Liverpool 2-0 ahead against Manchester United but VAR ruled it out for a foul by Virgil van Dijk on David de Gea in the build-up.

Outcome without VAR (LIVERPOOL WIN): If VAR didn’t interfere, Liverpool would have gone 2-0 up in the 25th minute. You feel they would have gone on to win very comfortably.

2nd | Man City | Points: 51 | Points difference: +3

Game: Crystal Palace (H)

Incident: Referee Graham Scott awarded Manchester City a penalty in the 72nd minute for Jairo Riedewald’s handball. VAR overruled Scott and cancelled the award of the spot-kick.

Outcome without VAR (DRAW): There’s an argument to be had that if City had the chance to equalise from the spot, they would have gone on to win the match. In real life, they equalised in the 82nd minute and went ahead in the 86th minute but still managed to draw the game 2-2. We don’t think much would have changed if they had just scored ten minutes earlier. We predict they would have won 2-1 up, as they did in real life, and then attempt - and fail - to sit back to defend their lead.

3rd | Leicester | Points: 41 | Points difference: -4

4th | Chelsea | Points: 41 | Points difference: +2

NO OVERTURNED VAR DECISIONS IN GAMEWEEK 23

5th | Wolves | Points: 37 | Points difference: +3

Game: Southampton (A)

Incident: Darren England failed to award Wolves a penalty for Jack Stephens’s foul on Jonny in the 65th minute. But VAR got involved and gave it, handing Wolves the chance to make it 2-2.

Outcome without VAR (DRAW): So, Wolves came from 2-0 down to win 3-2 with the help of VAR. However, if they hadn’t been awarded a penalty thanks to technology when 2-1 down, we doubt they would have won the match. In the remaining 25 minutes, we back them to have equalised but perhaps not earn all three points.

6th | Man Utd | Points: 32 | Points difference: -2

Game: Liverpool (A)

Outcome without VAR (NORWICH WIN): Norwich managed to hold onto their 1-0 lead despite VAR sending Godfrey off. So, with 11 men, we can only assume they would have done the same.
