There's just no stopping Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool right now.

Barring one of the craziest chokes in sporting history, the Reds will win their maiden Premier League trophy this season and they're on course to do with a record points tally exceeding 100.

It's easy to get lost in all the records Liverpool could break over the next five months and their defensive run is certainly one of the most unexpected when you consider the start they made.

Liverpool commenced the season with a knack for winning by outscoring their opponents, whereas now they have tightened up their defence and are managing games far better.

In fact, their 2-0 over Manchester United at the weekend means they've gone seven consecutive games without conceding and now the potential for even more history is beckoning.

Longest Premier League clean sheet runs

As a result, talkSPORT have decided to look at the longest clean-sheet streaks in Premier League history and you can see how the current Liverpool team is shaping up down below:

=6. Southampton - 7 games (2000-01)

A surprising start to say the least. Glenn Hoddle really shored up the Saints' back four in his first job following his sacking by England, eventually leaving for Tottenham at the end of the streak.

=6. Middlesbrough - 7 games (2003-04)

Steve McClaren was pulling the strings at the Riverside as Boro shut out their opponents between October and December 2003, eventually finishing in 11th place and with the League Cup to boot.

=6. Manchester United - 7 games (1996/97 & 1997/98)

Straddling two seasons, United finished their title-winning 1996-97 campaign with two clean sheets and then picked up from where they left off by conceding zero goals in their opening five matches.

=6. Liverpool - 7 games (2006-07)

The Reds may only have finished in third place and 23 points behind champions United, but Rafael Benitez still inspired them to a defensive masterclass between November and December 2006.

=6. Liverpool - 7 games (2019/20)

Ah, the team that sparked the list. Klopp's side amended their early season leakiness to keep Bournemouth, Watford, Leicester, Wolves, Sheffield United, Tottenham and United at bay.

=6. Everton - 7 games (1994-95)

The oldest streak to make the cut. The Toffees managed to traverse November and December without conceding despite swapping managers - from Mike Walker to Joe Royle - halfway through.

=3. Liverpool - 8 games (2005-06)

Liverpool's current record came just months after their Champions League triumph (sound familiar?) as Benitez instigated another streak that lasted until a Boxing Day Merseyside Derby.

=3. Chelsea - 8 games (2006-07)

During Jose Mourinho's first season in England in which he didn't win the Premier League, the 'Special One' still instigated defensive perfection between January and April to chase United in vain.

=3. Arsenal - 8 games (1997-98)

Surprisingly, Arsenal's cameo isn't from the 'Invincible' year, but rather their omnipotent run-in during Arsene Wenger's first full season on their way to a maiden Premier League crown over United.

2. Chelsea - 10 games (2004-05)

Anybody who watched Mourinho's Chelsea knows how watertight their defence was and they were the very first to reach ten games without conceding between December 2004 and February 2005.

1. Manchester United - 14 games (2008-09)

Insane. Edwin van der Sar might as well as have pitched a tent on his goal-line and gone to sleep during this remarkable run in which United went almost 24 hours without shipping a single strike.

After losing 2-1 away to Arsenal on November 8, their world-class defence - featuring Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic - went until a 2-1 win over Blackburn on February 21 with a perfect record.

GIVEMESPORT's Kobe Tong says

Sorry Liverpool fans, you're statistically the greatest Premier League side we've ever seen, but I simply can't see you beating that United record.

Even with the best centre-back, full-backs and goalkeeper in the world, you've shown enough defensive weaknesses earlier in the season to suggest another seven clean sheets is unlikely.

Besides, we're talking about a team that conceded in 13 of their opening 15 Premier League matches here...

Their trip to Wolves in mid-week poses one of the biggest threats to their run, while Danny Ings will fancy a goal on his Anfield return and Nigel Pearson's Watford will make themselves awkward.

But if I am made to eat my words, then it couldn't be more fitting than the fact Liverpool would over-take the clean sheet record at none other than Goodison Park.

Then the unbeaten run record at the Etihad Stadium? It really could be a fairytale for Klopp and co.
