Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool are just impossible to improve right now, aren't they?

Alisson Becker was indisputably the world's best goalkeeper throughout 2019, while Andrew Robertson and Trent Alexander-Arnold are two of the bets full-backs in the business.

Virgil van Dijk and Sadio Mane were both in contention for the Ballon d'Or; Mohamed Salah has won two consecutive Premier League Golden Boots and Divock Origi is a bona fide super-sub.

However, even with the Champions League title and a gargantuan lead in the Premier League table, the Reds can't rest on their laurels and will be looking for ways to kick on next season.

In the wise words of Alan Hansen during his 1995 'you can't win anything with kids' speech: "the trick is always buy when you're strong."

Werner attracting interest

But who could Liverpool possibly sign that would improve their remarkable team? Well, we'd wager that RB Leipzig's Timo Werner is one of the best suggestions on the market.

If you feel like you're getting deja vu, then fear not because Werner has been linked an Anfield switch in the past and his contract extension looked to have killed any hopes of a move.

However, the situation seems to have changed again as German newspaper Bild are reporting that Werner is angling for a Leipzig exit and that his 'preferred goal' is in fact Liverpool.

Liverpool is his 'preferred destination'

In the words of the Liverpool Echo's coverage: 'Timo Werner wants Liverpool move in the summer.'

It's explained that while, yes, Werner is under contract until 2023, the German international has an exit clause of €60 million that will decrease with each year.

And Leipzig boss Oliver Mintzlaff even admitted recently: “If Timo continues to score goals, it is clear that not only Bavaria is interested in such a world-class player. Nothing is unsaleable in football. We have to be so honest."

It's also noted that Chelsea are eyeing up an approach for Werner, but that Liverpool is the preferred destination as well as a guarantee of Champions League football next year.

GIVEMESPORT's Kobe Tong says

If Liverpool have the money to spend, then there's absolutely no harm in swooping for one of Europe's most prolific forwards and €60 million isn't too bad in the current market.

We're talking about a player who has out-scored Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi so far this season, while achieving the near-impossible of matching Robert Lewandowski's Bundesliga total.

Twenty strikes is certainly enough to blow Roberto Firmino's numbers out the water, it's just a case of whether his arrival would disrupt the chemistry with Mane and Salah.

However, I'm confident that won't be the case when you consider Klopp's coaching nous and the fact Leipzig play a very similar brand of football to the Reds.

Long-term investment in the midfield might appear the first priority, but Liverpool should take the rare transfer opportunities that would actually improve their team when they can.

You can give them the Premier League trophy already, we're talking about legacies and legend now.
