David Luiz has always been a box office footballer, so it was inevitable that he’d make headlines on his return to Stamford Bridge on Tuesday night. The Arsenal defender, who played for Chelsea between 2011-2014 and again between 2016-2019, was sent off after just 26 minutes against his former club.Luiz took Tammy Abraham down inside the penalty area as Arsenal’s last man, leaving referee Stuart Attwell with no option but to dismiss the Brazilian. However, Luiz wasn’t entirely to blame for his red card. It was Shkodran Mustafi’s calamitous back-pass to Bernd Leno which presented Abraham with the goalscoring opportunity.Jorginho then stepped up and coolly slotted the subsequent penalty past Leno to give Chelsea the lead.

Despite their man advantage and one-goal lead, though, Chelsea were unable to seal all three points.

Gabriel Martinelli levelled the scores midway through the second half with a composed finish after an 80-yard run.

Cesar Azpilicueta then thought he’d won it for Chelsea in the 84th minute, but Hector Bellerin’s equaliser shortly afterwards earned a hard-fought point for the Gunners.

Luiz was presumably the most relieved man in the stadium when Bellerin’s shot found its way into the bottom corner of the Chelsea net past Kepa Arrizabalaga.

And there were bizarre scenes during the final minute of the match as BT Sport showed Luiz watching the conclusion of the game in the bottom left-hand corner of the screen.

‘David Luiz cam’ suddenly became a thing - and there was, unsurprisingly, some cracking reaction over on social media…

Luiz could see himself watching the final minute of the game while it was going on, which must have made the whole scenario even weirder for him.

Here’s the minute of ‘David Luiz cam’ in full…

How strange.

If Chelsea or Arsenal had scored, mind, we would have been treated to some absolute TV gold.

No further goals were scored, however, and Arsenal remain 10th in the table on 30 points.

Chelsea, meanwhile, stay in fourth place on 40 points, six ahead of fifth-placed Manchester United, who will reduce that gap to three points if they defeat Burnley at Old Trafford on Wednesday night.
