It’s safe to say, Sky Sports’ Soccer Special would be nothing without Chris Kamara. The former midfielder, who hung up his boots in 1995 whilst at Bradford City, has been working as a reporter on the show since 1999.And since then, the 62-year-old has given the viewers more than their fair share of laughs. Most notably, Kamara famously missed Anthony Vanden Borre’s red card for Portsmouth against Blackburn Rovers back in 2010.As presenter Jeff Stelling crossed over to Fratton Park, he was met with a confused Kamara who completely failed to see the Pompey defender receive his marching orders. The list extended as he ignored the camera at Upton Park, called Jeff ‘George’ and claimed Spurs ‘fought like beavers’ against Arsenal.

And Kammy’s latest comedic moment came at Selhurst Park last night as he mistook Southampton’s Michael Obafemi for former Newcastle United striker Obafemi Martins.

Reporting on the game, Kamara said: "In the first few minutes of this game it has been all Southampton, they are playing in the Crystal Palace half.

"Obafemi Martins is playing up front instead of Danny Ings... not Obafemi Martins, what is his name? Obafemi someone," he added.

"Michael Obafemi, that's who! Haha! I was close! I knew there was an Obafemi in there somewhere!'

If a video summed Kamara up, it would definitely be this one.

35-year-old Martins is currently on the search for a new club after leaving Shanghai Shenhua in 2018.

The Nigerian international graced the Premier League with Newcastle United from 2006 to 2009 before returning to England to play for Birmingham City in 2011.

As for Obafemi, the 19-year-old joined the Southampton from Leyton Orient in 2018 before going on to become the Premier League’s youngest scorer last season.

The youngster came off after 84 minutes last night as the Saints beat Palace 2-0 to secure their fourth successive victory on the road.
