Nick Kyrgios was taken by surprise by a banana-related question by one Australian Open reporter following his victory in the opening round of the competition. After beating Lorenzo Sonego in straight sets, Kyrgios threw a banana, along with other things, into the crowd. With the banana apparently overshadowing his performance, Kyrgios was faced with a question on his decision not to leave the banana on the court.Kyrgios was asked: "Nick, there was a moment at the end of the match where you were cleaning up, I think you tossed away a banana. Was that just so the ball-kids wouldn't have to do it?"The confusion was evident in the 24-year-old, as he quickly shot the reporter's question down."You've gotta do better than that, mate, come on," Kyrgios said."Come on now. Oh my God. God."Is it a serious question? Oh my God ... next question."Kyrgios also appeared underwhelmed by another reporter's probe into the effect a brief lights failure had on his performance.

"I won the match in straight sets, so I wouldn't say it was too much of a distraction," Kyrgios said.

When the reporter followed up by asking if it would have bothered him in the past, Kyrgios said: "I was joking. You obviously didn't get the joke."

With some expected head-shaking and eye-rolling, the Australian put down his second reporter of the day.

"I mean, the lights just dimmed. I mean, what kind of response do you want from me right now?"

Having moved onto the second round of the Australian Open, the 24-year-old will face French veteran Gilles Simon, with a potential clash with World No.1 Rafael Nadal awaiting him in the fourth round.

With one quarter-final in eight appearances at his home tournament, Kyrgios will be looking for an improved finish this year, despite the tough path he has through the rounds.
