Liverpool are the 2019/20 Premier League champions, let's all just accept it.It would take one of the biggest collapses in sporting history for them to relinquish their 13-point lead - with games in hand, by the way - and give Manchester City or Leicester City any chance at all. So, we might as well as come to terms with the reality of the situation and that's a lot harder for some fans when you consider Liverpool have been repeatedly teased with 'it's our year' jokes. As a result, it wouldn't be hard to traipse through social media to finds posts from rival fans who are struggling with the fact Liverpool are going to win their maiden Premier League trophy.Tough times, I know, and one particularly City supporter might be accused of being similarly bitter after an appearance on 888Sport's 'Unpopular Opinion' segment this week.

Have Liverpool bought success?

Steven sat down with the show to explain that he thought Liverpool had 'bought their trophies' and that despite some undoubted bargains, money has been at the centre of their success.

We can already hear the pitchforks being sharpened, so we'll let Steven's comments stand for themselves and keep scrolling to check out the full video for good measure.

Man City fans explains all

"My unpopular opinion is that Liverpool have bought their trophies," Steven boldly claimed. "Now I know that's incredibly rich coming from a Manchester City fan, but that is why I know.

"I've seen it done plenty of times and it takes one to know one. Liverpool are absolutely fantastic, an incredible manager with some wonderful signings, but you've spent over £400 million.

"I'm personally so tired of this idea that they've done this in a special way or a wholesome way or a unique way. No, you've spent a lot of money on a lot of very good players and that is why they're as good as they are.

"There's been some bargains in the likes of Robertson and you've done great with Trent Alexander-Arnold, but you've still spent a hell of a lot of money and you have to accept that fact."

GIVEMESPORT's Kobe Tong says

Sigh. Look, ok, it sounds as though Steven isn't just some naive City fan as many people will label him and fair play for giving Liverpool credit in the areas they most definitely deserve.

But come on. There either needs to be a line we draw at the point we can accuse a team of 'buying their titles' or we can effectively level that accusation against 99% of title winners in the sport.

Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino were all purchased for less than it cost City to buy Benjamin Mendy, Joao Cancelo and Riyad Mahrez, who have all been far poorer.

That's not to mention the fact Andrew Robertson, Joel Matip, Joe Gomez, James Milner and Jordan Henderson were all bought for less than or the same as it cost City to buy Claudio Bravo.

Would Liverpool be in this position without splurging on Alisson and Van Dijk? Absolutely not, but at the point two integral players warrants 'buying' the league then we're being insanely harsh.

And regardless, at least the two players Liverpool did loosen their pursestrings for have gone on to become the world's best in their respective positions as opposed to bit-players or bench-warmers.

Unless it's a freak year where Leicester or Montpellier win the league, money is always going to be involved and Liverpool have 'bought' their glory far, far less than the City champions before them.
