Manchester United have a number of highly talented youngsters in their ranks at present, one of which is 20-year-old Dutch winger Tahith Chong.

The Netherlands Under-21 international joined United from Feyenoord in 2016 and impressed during his spell in the club’s youth ranks.

He went viral on social media following his eye-catching reserves debut against Tottenham in January 2018, leading many United fans to believe this lad was a future superstar.

Chong continued to impress United coaches over the following months and was subsequently called up to the first team for the pre-season tour of the USA in the summer of 2018.

Since then, Chong has made 11 competitive appearances for the Premier League giants over the past season-and-a-half but has struggled to produce his best form for the first team so far.

Of course, that’s to be expected with a young player. Not every starlet can hit the ground running immediately like Mason Greenwood or Brandon Williams.

However, Chong has only played 24 minutes of Premier League football this season.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer clearly doesn’t believe the winger is ready for top-level football in England.

And it’s because of Solskjaer that Chong has now decided to leave Old Trafford.

This is according to The Times’ Paul Hirst, who reports that Chong has made up his mind to quit United and wants to move to Italy.

The report adds that both Inter Milan and Juventus are willing to hand Chong a five-year contract worth around £50,000 per week, plus a significant signing-on fee.

Chinese Super League club Jiangsu Suning are also interested in Chong, who only has eyes for Serie A.

Solskjaer wants Chong to stay, but the versatile attacker’s agent claims the United boss doesn’t rate his client.

“He [Solskjaer] has different views on Tahith than the leadership,” Erkan Alkan told Voetbal International, per The Times.

“A coach thinks about himself, I think about my player. He has come to a point where he feels that he is not going any further. Then it’s time to look further.”

Solskjaer, who reportedly has the full backing of Ed Woodward and the Glazer family despite pressure from frustrated supporters, previously said that the decision over whether to stay or go was Chong’s to make.

“There are players we want to get signed [up to new contracts] and Tahith is a player we think is going to develop,” he commented. “We’ve offered him a very good contract and the ball is in his court.”

Chong has now made his decision - and will be plying his trade away from Old Trafford from next season onwards.
